Recognizing Marshall University's Forensic Science Academic Program
and the achievements of its director, Dr. Terry W. Fenger.

Whereas, Marshall University's Forensic Science Academic
Program is one of the nation's first graduate-level forensic
programs which focuses on DNA technologies; and

Whereas, Marshall University's Forensic Science Academic
Program developed a state-of-the-art DNA laboratory which provides
genetic data-basing services for the West Virginia State Police
Combined DNA Index System; and

Whereas, Over 70 masters-level forensic scientists have
graduated from the Program in five years, including six West
Virginia state troopers; and

Whereas, One third of the graduates of the Forensic Science
Academic Program have stayed in West Virginia and are employed in
forensic-related careers; and

Whereas, The Program's Director, Dr. Terry W. Fenger, has
become one of the nation's recognized leaders in forensic science education; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Senate:

That the Senate hereby recognizes Marshall University's
Forensic Science Academic Program, one of the nation's first
graduate-level forensic science programs which focuses on DNA
technologies; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Senate recognizes the outstanding
accomplishments of the Director of Marshall University's Forensic
Science Academic Program, Dr. Terry W. Fenger, who has gained
national recognition as a leader in forensic science education;
and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward
a copy of this resolution to Dr. Terry W. Fenger, Director of the
Forensic Science Academic Program.
